Native Sky Photography

Hey there, and
welcome to my blog! I am Kerry -- the photographer behind Native Sky Photography.  I am mother to incredible boys, take delight in the outdoors, and will freely admit that I am a
sucker for all kinds of animals.  I love coffee, watching old
episodes of Northern Exposure, and loud, funky music.  Hanging out with my
family is my favorite thing to do....and creating images for amazing people is
what fuels my soul.

Hope you enjoy my blog!  Please feel free to add comments below so that I
know you were here.

Pink and Pigtails ~ on Etsy! | Maryland etsy photographer

SO much fun (and well, general busy-ness!) has been happening in my life and though I’ve been working hard, I haven’t had time to blog about everything I’ve been working on!  But one thing I’m really excited about lately that I want the world to know about is this great collection of hair accessories designed by Chandra Robinson of Pink and Pigtails on  Chandra uses an array of materials that feature vibrant colors, exciting textures, and deep contrasts that result in unique, one-of-a-kind pieces of beauty, versatility, and comfort.  For occasions that are either fun or formal, there is definitely something in her etsy shop for that!  The quality and customer service she provides is unmatched, and she is just as thrilled about designing and creating as you will be when you receive her work!  I highly recommend that you check out Pink and Pigtails on etsy! You’ll be glad you did!  Not only is Chandra someone who creates beautiful headbands, bows, clips, hats (and more!) for little girls, tweens, teens, and young adults, but she has also become someone I can call a friend.  Chandra, thank you for reaching out to me… I truly value your friendship. Our paths were meant to cross and believe me, I consider myself so blessed to know you!  I’ll see you soon!

Here is just a small representation of Chandra’s work, with more to come.  Enjoy!

Valerie and Chris ~ More to love! | Maryland Wedding and Engagement Photographer

I’ve fallen behind on my blogging mostly because there are so many awesome shots of Valerie and Chris, and I just can’t stop myself! I’m in the middle of editing their photos from our 2nd session (we weren’t able to finish our shoot the first day due to an emergency on the metro), but I just wanted to share a few more of this truly fantastic couple from that 1st session.  The 2nd session is coming soon….so check back ~ you won’t be disappointed!   These two are stunning and knocked it out of the park once again!!  For now, enjoy a few more photos from that first fabulous day!

April 26, 2010 - 7:40 am Lydia Shannon - Kerry! These are beautiful. Wow- I have you on my Google Reader and haven't clicked though to your actual site. WOW WOW WOW... it is SO beautiful. I LOVE your logo, the colors, everything! And these pictures are beautiful. I miss you!

Valerie & Christos, engaged! ~ Maryland Wedding Photographer

She simply glows….his expressions radiate…and together they make a brilliant couple whose eyes are intensely focused on a powerfully bright future. They are infinitely in love and the energy they create together is so genuine that I couldn’t help but feel it too…and it made me happy just to be around them.  Valerie and Christos make a dynamic pair who truly have it all — major intelligence, innate kindness, a playful spirit, and simply put, sheer gorgeousness!  Both are natives of Virginia who adore their families and friends, and they take every opportunity to spend time with all of them, understanding the blessings and treasures that each alliance holds.  Christos proposed to Valerie on the beach last May, surrounded by friends and Corolla’s wild horses, and so their love was taken to a blazing new height.  They asked me to document their wedding this October, and I am honored. Here are just some of their engagement photos, taken at the Smithsonian Castle on a sunny, golden Saturday.  Valerie and Chris, thank you so much for such an amazing day with you two!  I absolutely can’t wait to see you both again, very soon!  Enjoy!

The Sweetest Family, part 2 ~ Maryland Family and Child Portrait Photographer

I can’t get enough of this family!  So of course I knew I would want to share more….  The kids are so full of character (notice the impish lift of her eyebrow in the first photo?) and sweetness of it all… the mother’s love, the father’s pride, the fun of aunts and uncles, the tight-knit closeness of family….I love every bit of it.  I know you will too….so here are more!  And please leave a comment or two to let us all know your thoughts!

The Sweetest Family ~ Maryland Child and Family Portrait Photographer

It’s really tough for me to describe how pure and kind-hearted this family is…words can’t truly tell of the rare and extraordinary essence they possess that just makes these people glow.  For the second time they welcomed me into their home and again I felt so comfortable, like I have known them for years.  I had such a great time photographing them that I came away with more than my usual number of shots so it’s going to take me a little longer to process them all…and you can bet there will be another blog entry because keeping these gorgeous people under wraps would be a cryin’ shame!

Last time I had the honor of photographing their baby who was three months-old then.  Now he’s almost seven months-old and growing into his “Little Man” clothes so fast!  Today he was joined by his cousins — three year-old “L” and ten month-old “J.” All three of them together was an adorable sight to see!  I hope you love this sneak peek of the kids as much as I do, with more to come….  What a way to kick off a beautiful spring!

March 19, 2010 - 9:37 pm Lydia Shannon - Awwww Kerry! These are sooo precious!!!

March 23, 2010 - 8:21 pm -brittany- - What an adorable little fam! So cute!

Navy Baby ~ Maryland Baby, Family, and Portrait Photographer

Sometimes life throws you for one HUGE loop….  And it can be enough to test your faith in an equally big way.  As a result, you must choose one of two options — you could either let it bring you down and then end up destroyed, or, even through the pain, you can count your blessings and celebrate life!  The “K” family just happens to have chosen the latter and are embracing the sweet joys of a beautiful existence here on earth.

A few years ago I met “D” while browsing at Kohl’s.  She was about 8 months pregnant with a baby girl, pushing a stroller with another gorgeous little girl inside, and as moms often do, we just started chatting about (what seemed like) everything under the sun.  And as they say, “The rest is history!” — We’ve been great friends ever since!  She is one of those beautiful and amazing moms who just have it all together — she understands what “family” truly means and is totally fulfilled in every capacity as a wife and mother.

One day her life was turned upside-down when her husband, a Navy pilot, was diagnosed with a brain tumor.  What followed was an unimaginable and frightening series of tests, consultations, heartbreak, tears, and countless prayers.  “D” remembers that time as just a blurry passing of one day to another, and said she was almost paralyzed by the fear of losing the love of her life.  They spent long hours at National Naval Medical Center where Dr. Mulligan performed the miraculous surgery that removed the tumor.   This surgery happened exactly one year ago on St. Patrick’s Day.  Incredibly, “S” has made a full recovery and he and his family will forever be grateful to Dr. Mulligan, the ICU nurses, interns, and entire staff at NNMC.  The magnitude of this miracle is not lost on the “K” famliy….they know how fragile and delicate life can be, and they really know how blessed they are to have not just survived this traumatic event, but to celebrate and truly cherish all that God has given to them.  “D” and “S” are strong and resilient and have come through the scariest moment in their life together…and I know it’s because of the pure goodness in their hearts that they have been blessed yet again…this time with beautiful baby boy “K,” third in the “K” family series!  Happy St. Patrick’s Day and the One Year Anniversary of your surgery, “S”!  Here’s to many years of health and happiness!  Cheers!

March 15, 2010 - 10:09 pm Karen - This blog entry brought a tear to my eye, Kerry! Your photos and words said it all... D and S are so thankful for all they've been blessed with, no matter how long and hard the road has been to get there. Thanks for sharing.

March 15, 2010 - 11:06 pm -brittany- - oh wow...what an amazing story and what amazing pictures as well! I am in love with that little guy's hair!

March 16, 2010 - 10:42 am Wendy Kramer - Love these pictures! They are absolutely stunning!! I balled seeing Daddy "S" hat on Baby "K." What a story there is behind that picture. I love you "K" family. Thank you for being such a good friend to "D." You have a wonderful talent. Hope to meet you someday and have my children photographed by you!

March 16, 2010 - 3:21 pm Heather in NC - Beautiful work as always Kerry! So glad to have met you in Jacksonville and I continue to be inspired by your talent.

March 19, 2010 - 8:09 am Sean - Kerry, great job on the pictures, they look great. I hope to be back in the cockpit in a couple of weeks. Prost.

March 19, 2010 - 9:49 am admin - Sean, I am totally shaken and in awe of you and your family...what you've all been through...and you have come out of it with your faces turned toward the sun, and smiling... What JOY! And now you'll be able to FLY toward the sun, again! You are the purest of all inspiration and a blessing beyond measure! Happy FLYING, Sean!

March 25, 2010 - 10:17 am chandra - Beatiful pics and WONDERFUL testimony reflecting just how awesome God is! The pics brought a simle to my face, while the story gave me some added faith to apply to my own life!!! THANK YOU!!!

Baby “G” at three months old! ~ Maryland Baby and Child Photographer

I’m so excited to post this baby’s photos…he was a true pleasure to photograph!  And I had the opportunity to do his mom’s belly photos as well, so this is a beautiful continuation of memories that I am blessed to help preserve.  Baby “G” was as sweet and smiley as they come, and I couldn’t help smiling right along with him!  What a doll…  I hope you enjoy this sneak peek of one of the world’s cutest kiddos!  And for the family, there is definitely more to come….  Congratulations on such happy, healthy, and amazing children!

March 11, 2010 - 10:03 pm Nicole - Absolutely gorgeous pictures. Very well done!!

More from “H” Family Session ~ Maryland Family Portrait Photographer

I couldn’t resist posting a few more photos from this awesomely fun family session!  We had such a blast at the Gaylord National Hotel at the National Harbor…The last photo cracks me up!  I love my clients!  They are truly a kick to capture!

“H” Family Session ~ Maryland Family and Child Portrait Photographer

The weather can be frightful this time of year..and for us here in DC, we’ve had our fair (or unfair!) share of cold, blustery, wintery weather, eh?  So when planning for this family session, I thought…hmmm….where might there be an indoor oasis that takes us completely out of this dreary day?  A-ha — the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center at the National Harbor!  Perfect!  And it was a beautiful escape….if you haven’t been there yet, you MUST check it out!  It’s like a great atrium with fountains, bridges, plants and trees, shops, cafes, and restaurants as well…gorgeous.  And it didn’t disappoint!  This family was a total blast to photograph…the kids were full of energy and character (check out the super-cool attitudes in the 3rd photo!) and the mother, absolutely stunning.  The grandmother is fascinating….a strong, proud Romanian woman who’s warmth shines as she speaks and uses her hands as emphasis.  I loved this session….have a look!

March 4, 2010 - 1:49 pm Carly Zakutney - As you know your blog is one of my favorite places to visit, absolutely love all that you've been up to, and I'm uplifted every time I come here....mwah!
